Attack of the Racks V | CarPark

The ’24/’25 winter season in NYC has felt exceptionally long, in comparison to the mild past few years. This meant ample time for Classic Car Club Manhattan to host two winter-themed events. Somehow, Attack of the Racks V occurred on a chilly 27 degree morning a couple days after the official start of spring. So with the heavy jacket and gloves back on, I arrived early to catch roll in.

Organized by CarPark, Attack of the Racks is an event dedicated to featuring functionally-accessorized vehicles. Participants for this fifth edition ranged from a pair of vintage VW Beetles to a UN-themed Land Rover Defender.

In this era of SUV everything, a special mention to a duo of custom classic wagons that showed up. The grey 60s Ford Galaxie had a wood slatted roof rack big enough to handle the move of a typical NYC apartment. And those round jet nozzle-inspired tail lights show the fine detail missing from contemporary car design.

The 1963 Dodge Dart Long Roof is a wilder custom that manages to highlight the wagon’s elegant lines. Particularly nice are the scooped front grille and waterfall tailgate and the belt line that ties them together.
