Prada Mode NYC

Prada Mode, the members only social club staged a mini takeover of NYC during the Tribeca Film Festival. With events taking place at nearly a half dozen locations around Manhattan ranging from Katz’s Deli to The Chelsea Hotel, it seemed like an ambitious project worth checking out. The main installation points were at the Prada store in Soho and the Chelsea Hotel a couple blocks west of the Flatiron Building.

This is the continuation of a Satellites series called Satellites II showcasing a collaboration with Danish film director Nicolas Winding Refn and Japanese game creator Hideo Kojima. Three guest rooms at the Chelsea Hotel were transformed between a livestream television studio, the Prada Mode Channel, on member days and an art installation open to the public. These were named the Spaceship Studio, the Silver Studio and the Cloud Studio. The Silver Studio presented videos of Refn and Kojima on custom built space-age TVs with transparent screens. A control panel structure in the Spaceship Studio dominated the room looking like a set piece from a b-movie sci-fi flick.

Over at Prada’s Soho store, a giant inflatable UFO hovered in the double height space. Broadcasts from the previous private days were screened below including an interviews with New York-based artists and culture personalities.

ABOUT PRADA MODE NEW YORK

Prada presents Satellites II, the fourteenth iteration of Prada Mode at the Hotel Chelsea in New York City in collaboration with Danish film director Nicolas Winding Refn and Japanese game creator Hideo Kojima.

Coinciding with the Tribeca Festival, the multi-day event builds on Nicolas Winding Refn and Hideo Kojima’s previous collaboration, Satellites, an exhibition exploring the connection between love, language, and creativity through the friendship of the two artists, which was presented at Prada Aoyama Tokyo in the summer of 2025. An immersive experience, Satellites II is an extension of the original exhibition, traversing across communication and human connection spanning multiple languages, cultures, and spaces, interwoven into the romantic iconography of the Hotel Chelsea and other renowned New York venues.

For Prada Mode New York, Satellites II is hosted at the Hotel Chelsea, where a spatial narrative moves between public, domestic, and intimate environments of the hotel, reflecting the balance between private spaces and collective accessibility. The event takes place across different sections of the hotel, featuring a cultural program conceived by the curators to invoke an invasion of the historical space with a classical yet progressive science fiction aesthetic. Over the two-day private exhibition, selected hotel rooms serve as micro television studios, showcasing original and unique performances for those with exclusive access. Subsequently, the next three days are open to the public, allowing guests to access the same hotel rooms, now transformed into intentional art installations.

Additional areas in the hotel host site-specific installations that center around Nicolas Winding Refn and Hideo Kojima’s continuous dialogue and obsessions.

The culminating effect is an unforgettable cosmic voyage into the connection, inspiration, and friendship shared by the two artists.

Prada Mode New York includes a live cultural program encompassing talks, concerts, performances, and reinterpretation of broadcast formats.

ABOUT PRADA MODE

Prada Mode is a contemporary cultural series bridging audiences and luminaries at diverse locations world-wide.
