Estonian Design In Motion
Upmade in Estonia was one of the standout satellite exhibitions of NYCxDesign 2024. It featured products, fashion and furniture created from up-cycled or recycled materials. Many of the same fashion designers participated in Estonian Design In Motion, a fashion performance night presented by the Estonian Design House / Eesti Disaini Maja. A runway show/live photoshoot and performance was staged in NYC’s Oculus at The Canvas, a sustainable fashion platform.
The show included 16 Estonia-based designers and brands ranging from commercial uniform makers to one-off designers specializing in up-cycled denim. The show reinforced the potential that sustainable fashion has to be diverse and unique.
A particular highlight was the work of Reet Aus and her signature graphic arrow collection created from textile leftovers. Beyond the positives behind her brand, circularity and zero waste, the collection has a strong identity and nice design details.
