Classic Car Club Manhattan didn’t leave out the people who couldn’t make it to Monterey Car Week. Gears on the Piers returned for the fifteenth edition on a Sunday morning to focus on Porsche’s Paint to Sample program. This being a Porsche-focused event in NYC, of course it rained, so like Porschella a few weeks earlier this’ll be a batch of moody photos. The wet conditions probably also deterred some owners from participating, leading to a rather small turnout.
The Paint to Sample program offers Porsche buyers the choice to an exterior color from a palette of about 100 different swatches. It’s a semi-custom way to make your 911 stand out from all the other base color choices. Decades ago there used to be a lot more interesting paint color choices offered. People seem to only want white, grey or black these days which makes the typical parking lot look pretty depressing.
I applaud the 911 GT3 owner who selected the chartreuse leaning yellow body paint and paired it white wheels. Yes, that combo is a ticket magnet but especially with the weather, it was a mood booster just to look at.
