2023 Greenwich Concours de Sport

The annual Greenwich Concours in Connecticut typically spans two weekend days in early June. Sunday is the main concours event with Saturday being more of a mishmash of programming including Radwood and manufacturer ride and drives. Since Hagerty got involved in staging the show, I feel like they’ve been trying hard to attract a younger audience on Saturday. The schedule for 2023 introduced yet another idea, the Concours de Sport, and it sounded intriguing. It was to be a day dedicated to racing and performance vehicle classes which would also be judged.

I imagined the lawn at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park to be filled with vintage and contemporary race cars typically hidden away in East Coast garages. That wasn’t quite the case and the Concours de Sport missed its full potential on debut. There were some interesting categories like homologation special rally cars of the 80s-90s and a collection of outlaw Porsches. The latter was a particularly cool celebration of imperfection. But there were also duplicates of what’s usually reserved for Sunday, hot rods, supercars and celebrity cars. Maybe in a couple of years with time to refine the categories and focus the event further it’ll become something unique.

The following gallery is a pretty comprehensive walk around. It’s never good to skip a stroll around the attendee parking lot and there were a few gems I found there.

Carriage House Motor Cars

A short walk from the Concours event is the showroom of Carriage House Motor Cars. The place is typically chock full of vintage rarities. One of the most eye-catching rolled out for the weekend was a 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Rondine Pininarina Coupe. It’s got classic proportions with a mile long hood, beautifully molded rear glass and very discrete panel lines. A deceptively simple body design with lots of subtleties to discover.
