Radiator, one of NYCxDesign’s strongest independent design shows staged a third edition inside Manhattan’s Refinery Hotel. Producers/curators Andrew Algier and Sara Schoenberger, invited me back to shoot the show a day prior to the public opening. In contrast to the expansive Art Cake gallery the 2022 show occupied, this was a small and intimate space surrounded by floor to ceiling drapery.
The vibe of the space syncs nicely with the theme of the show, Catered Comfort. The eight designers selected to exhibit showed furniture, lighting and interior accessories that evoke the familiar and create a sense of ease. But overstuffed sofas and fluffy chairs are far from what this collection includes.
Katie Greenberg and notpaulsimon’s furniture and lighting takes on a machine aesthetic, a nod to the merging relationship between humans and technology. Caroline Kable, Christopher Merchant and Andrew Jacobs represent the human touch and influence of nature in their pieces. Caroline Kepley’s mirrors and Micah Rosenblatt’s sofa each conjure the imagination with geometric forms and altered physics that hint at an alternate reality. Anna Dawson’s one line chair and stool reflect the calming nature of curves.
