Gears on the Pier series at Classic Car Club Manhattan has been featuring single manufacturers and vehicle types for a few years now. On a mid-fall Saturday morning, the main garage space was filled with vintage and contemporary Land Rovers (and a couple Jags). Maybe it was a gently reminder that messy East Coast winter driving conditions are just ahead on the calendar.
Defenders were well represented from pristine 2-door models to a kitted out 4-door that took part in the 1994 La Ruta Maya expedition across South America. It’s clear to see the Defender’s transformation from pure utility vehicle to the refined, and styled model produced today. Although it is still possible to get a new old Defender from makers like Ineos and Twisted.
