May 2021 is a second subdued year for NYCxDesign. While nearly all of the programs making up NYC’s annual design week are virtual, a few in-person events have made it on the calendar. The Radiator Show held in a ground floor space at the Gowanus Studio Space in Brooklyn debuted a year after its intended 2020 date.
Taking its name from the heating device that distributes energy, the Radiator Show featured a dozen new designers and small local studios exhibiting work spanning furniture, lighting and accessories. On the industrial end are perforated metal furniture pieces by Micah Rosenblatt and a raw aluminum circular shelf by Jordan Maurice. These are paired with colorful pendants by Zeray Studio and LED lighting by Fromm Design that senses motion and displays moving clouds at sunset.
Shaina Tabak’s Folding Tables combine some intense engineering with art-driven aesthetics. In a similar category are chairs by Luke Malaney and a ladder and mirror pair by Algierwork.
